Orthodontic-Periodontal Care

Moving teeth changes the forces on the gums and bone. For some patients, especially those with thin tissue or existing recession, a periodontal evaluation before or during orthodontic treatment helps protect the gumline.

When we may be involved

  • Thin gum tissue or recession noted before braces or aligners
  • Recession that develops during treatment
  • Frenum attachments that pull on the gumline
  • Adult patients with a history of periodontitis who plan orthodontic treatment
  • Exposure of teeth that have not erupted normally, at the orthodontist's request

Coordinated with your orthodontist

We share findings and timing with your orthodontist so periodontal care fits the treatment sequence. This applies whether your orthodontist is in our network or practices independently.
