Digital X-Rays
We use digital X-rays to get a better understanding of the big picture of your oral health. It’s almost impossible to give you comprehensive treatment without taking a look beneath the surface with this noninvasive technology. For our digital X-rays, we place a small electronic sensor in your mouth that allows us to capture an image and view the inside of your teeth, gums, and surrounding bones. During this process, we are looking for abnormalities such as gum disease, tooth decay, abscesses, and more.
In recent years, this technology has been refined to perfection, and the model we use in our practice is better than ever. There are many advantages to using digital X-rays over traditional X-rays, such as lessened exposure to radiation. In fact, the traditional version is known to have up to 90 percent more radiation exposure, so this new system was a welcome addition to the field of periodontics.
Not only are digital X-rays safer, but they are also more effective. We don’t have to process any film as dentists have in years past, so we can immediately show you the results on a screen after we take the images. Additionally, the picture will be much more precise, and we will be able to magnify and highlight specific areas so we can more easily identify potential issues.

CT Scan
Cone Beam Computed Tomography is a revolutionary system that has changed the way we diagnose and treat oral health issues. Like a normal digital X-ray, it captures images of your mouth that allow us to see beneath the surface. What makes this scanner unique is that it rotates around a patient’s head and captures multiple images that are put together to create a 3D model. The CBCT scanner records about 150-600 X-rays in less than a minute, so we are sure to get an accurate depiction of your unique smile.
Once the 3D model is constructed using these X-rays, we can zoom in and out and manipulate the image to better understand which areas would benefit from treatment. We always strive to give recommendations that will help you achieve a happier and healthier smile, and this technology allows us to make more informed decisions. This scanner uses a small amount of radiation, but we understand not every patient is comfortable with this feature. Once you’re in the office, we can discuss your options, and we will encourage you to make treatment decisions that make you feel the most comfortable.
Digital Impressions
Uncomfortable trays are a thing of the past with new digital impression technology that can effortlessly create a 3D model of your teeth. Digital impressions are typically used to create crowns and veneers for teeth that have undergone decay. With this technology, we can make sure every step of the restoration process is tailored to your natural smile.
We will begin the process by cleaning your teeth of any dental decay so we can get an accurate impression. After your teeth are cleaned, we will dust your teeth with a reflective material that makes it easier for our scanning wand to pick up multiple images. Our scanning wand uses incredible blue wavelength light technology to accurately capture every groove of your teeth to create a realistic 3D representation. Once we capture every angle of your teeth, the computer will automatically generate a model for us to send to the lab and even use in the future. We adopted this revolutionary technology because we want our patients to receive the best care possible, and we know how impactful digital impressions can be.
