Cosmetic & Comfort Options

At Madan Periodontics, exceptional care means more than treating disease — it means helping you feel great about the way you look and ensuring that every visit is as comfortable as possible. Whether you’re looking to refine your smile or simply want to feel at ease during treatment, Dr. Madan and her team are here to make that happen.

Cosmetic Enhancements

Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you — and your gums play a larger role in how it looks than most people realize. Healthy, well-proportioned gum tissue frames each tooth and gives the smile its overall shape, symmetry, and balance. When the gums are uneven, excessive, or receded, the entire smile can appear off — regardless of how straight or white the teeth are.

As a periodontist, Dr. Madan is uniquely positioned to address the gum-related aspects of smile aesthetics with a level of precision and expertise that goes beyond what a general dentist can offer. From subtle reshaping to more comprehensive gum line transformations, cosmetic periodontal enhancements can dramatically improve the appearance of your smile — often in a single visit and with minimal downtime.

Gum Contouring & Reshaping

If your gum line is uneven, asymmetrical, or simply doesn’t frame your teeth the way you’d like, gum contouring can make a striking difference. Using precise surgical technique, Dr. Madan carefully removes and reshapes excess or irregular gum tissue to create a smooth, balanced gum line that complements the natural shape of your teeth. This procedure is ideal for patients whose smiles appear uneven due to gum tissue that sits at different heights on different teeth.

Gummy Smile Correction

A gummy smile — where a significant portion of the gums is visible when you smile — is one of the most common cosmetic concerns that brings patients to a periodontist. For many patients, the issue isn’t that their teeth are short; it’s that excess gum tissue is covering a greater portion of the tooth than it should. Through cosmetic crown lengthening, Dr. Madan removes the excess tissue to reveal the full, natural length of the teeth, creating a smile that looks longer, more proportionate, and more confident. The results can be genuinely transformative — and patients are often surprised by how much of a difference this single procedure can make.

Soft Tissue Grafting for Cosmetic Improvement

Gum recession doesn’t just affect oral health — it affects appearance. When gum tissue recedes significantly, teeth can begin to look elongated or uneven, and dark spaces may appear between the teeth near the gumline. Soft tissue grafting restores lost gum tissue, covers exposed root surfaces, and brings the gum line back to a more natural, attractive position. In many cases, the cosmetic and health benefits of grafting go hand in hand.

Cosmetic Periodontal Care as Part of a Smile Makeover

Many patients pursuing veneers, bonding, orthodontics, or other cosmetic dental work are referred to Dr. Madan as part of their overall smile design plan. Before placing restorations, the gum line needs to be properly proportioned — otherwise, even the most beautifully crafted veneers can look uneven or unnatural. Dr. Madan works closely with your general dentist and restorative team to ensure that the periodontal foundation of your smile is exactly right before cosmetic work begins.

If you’ve been thinking about improving your smile but aren’t sure where to start, a consultation with Dr. Madan is a great first step. She will evaluate the health and aesthetics of your gums, explain what’s possible, and help you understand which treatments — alone or in combination — will give you the result you’re looking for.

Sedation Dentistry

We understand that dental anxiety is real — and that for many people, the fear of dental treatment has led them to put off care they need, sometimes for years. At Madan Periodontics, your comfort is never an afterthought. Dr. Madan and her team go out of their way to create a calm, welcoming environment, and for patients who need more than reassurance, sedation options are available to make your experience as relaxed and stress-free as possible.

Sedation is also an excellent option for patients undergoing lengthy or complex procedures, those with a strong gag reflex, or anyone who simply prefers to feel deeply at ease throughout their treatment.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous oxide is the mildest and most commonly used form of dental sedation. Administered through a small mask placed over the nose, nitrous oxide produces a gentle sense of relaxation and well-being within minutes. You remain fully conscious and able to communicate throughout the procedure, but the edge of anxiety is lifted and discomfort is minimized. One of the key advantages of nitrous oxide is how quickly it wears off — the effects dissipate rapidly once the mask is removed, meaning most patients can drive themselves home and return to their normal day without any lingering grogginess.

Oral Conscious Sedation

For patients with moderate to significant dental anxiety, or for those undergoing more extensive treatment, oral conscious sedation offers a deeper level of relaxation. A prescribed medication is taken by mouth prior to your appointment, and by the time your procedure begins, you will feel calm, drowsy, and largely indifferent to what is happening around you. Most patients have little to no memory of the procedure afterward. You remain conscious and able to respond to Dr. Madan throughout, but you will feel deeply at ease. Because the effects of oral sedation last longer than nitrous oxide, you will need a trusted adult to drive you to and from your appointment and stay with you for a period afterward.

IV Sedation

For patients who require the highest level of comfort — whether due to severe dental anxiety, a complex surgical procedure, or the need to complete multiple treatments in a single visit — IV sedation provides the deepest level of conscious sedation available in an outpatient setting. The sedative is delivered directly into the bloodstream through a small IV, allowing Dr. Madan to precisely adjust the level of sedation throughout the procedure. You will be in a deeply relaxed, sleep-like state for the duration of treatment and will have little or no recollection of the experience. As with oral sedation, a responsible adult must accompany you to and from your appointment.

Is sedation right for you?

If any of the following apply to you, sedation dentistry may make a meaningful difference in your experience at our office:

  • You feel anxious or fearful about dental visits
  • You have had a difficult or traumatic experience at the dentist in the past
  • You have a sensitive gag reflex
  • You require a lengthy or complex procedure
  • You have difficulty sitting still for extended periods
  • You prefer not to be fully aware of the sights, sounds, and sensations of treatment

Dr. Madan will review your health history, discuss your concerns, and help you determine which sedation option is most appropriate for your needs. Your safety is paramount throughout — your vital signs are monitored carefully during any sedated procedure, and Dr. Madan and her team are fully trained in sedation protocols and emergency preparedness.

You deserve to feel comfortable in the dental chair. With the right sedation option, many patients who once dreaded their appointments find that treatment is far more manageable — and far less intimidating — than they ever expected.
