The best way to defend against oral cancer is to identify it in its early stages and promptly begin treatment. Our team is passionate about keeping our patients safe, and this is why we encourage everyone to participate in an annual oral cancer exam. Even if we don’t find anything during the exam, you will benefit from having the peace of mind that your smile is healthy. During the early stages of oral cancer, patients are typically asymptomatic, so it can be difficult for you to identify on your own.
The examination process is completely painless, so there’s no need for you to worry about an invasive process. Our doctor will initially perform a visual exam, which includes feeling around the face, glands, and neck for bumps that typically indicate oral cancer. Lasers are also used for their ability to spot pathologic changes such as small lesions that we may not be able to spot during the visual exam.
